As I continue to work on The Witches’ War pentalogy, it continues to grow, to change. With the input of several beta readers, a major character’s name has changed, and not a little. It is a completely new name, not remotely similar. From Oscar to Nicolas, to be specific. And other little things that involve more of the world, building up the way magic functions, the witch crystals. It’s all evolving. I’ve noticed that about myself as a writer. I’ve been told that my world-building ability is pretty good, and I think it’s because I just can’t help myself. I have to make it make sense to myself, and I’m nothing if not science-loving and logical (maybe not that last part…okay my logic is inspired by emotions which as Spock tells us, are not logical). This bleeds into how I write. If it doesn’t make sense, I’m not going to understand it, and then why would I think the reader would? As a beta reader, and a fantastic fellow writer has told me, hand-holding is a thing. So while my world-building is pretty good, I have to watch myself not to let it become too…hand-holding-y. Hey, look at that! I invented a new word. lol So, for everyone out there, myself included (yep, I’m out there sometimes), the Witches’ War is underway, I’ve got the second book plotted out (such that it is, for this pantser) and the rest of the series has a foundation, bad guys picked out, events and scenes in mind, and I’ve got relationships to build. Or not. So, I’m off to do some writing. Or in this case, editing. Which is all part of writing. Right? Write.
